Shou Umeya's pals have observed peculiar behavior in him while he rushes back home after class, suspecting he's devoting all his time to a mysterious gal. But in reality, his focus is on the charming and accident-prone Yoshiharu "Sakura" Sakuragaoka. Their paths meet when Sakura requests Umeya's assistance to track down a black cat that has gone missing. Sakura implored him to keep their search discreet from their landlord, and since that day, Umeya has been keeping Sakura's trust by visiting and playing with the cat whenever he desires. Subaru Kashino meets Kei Natsume, a member of the library committee, at a rural high school sports training camp. Intrigued by Kei's frequent visits to the library, Subaru develops a fascination for him. He has an intense dream about Kei, which leaves him feeling sexually charged. As Subaru prepares to return to Tokyo, Kei proposes they keep in touch through letters, instead of phone calls. Although initially confused, Subaru is curious about the idea and agrees to exchange letters with Kei.
High school is home to all kinds of new encounters and people, but for Renge Ooyama, her first encounter with a classmate was much weirder than she expected. When Renge meets her classmate Sumire Yotsuya, the latter is clearly not the 16-year-old student she claims to be, but instead is a wooden puppet operated by an old man dressed in black.
