An adaptation of Edogawa Ranpo's eponymous novel. It's Tokyo and the year is 1924. A young tradesman by the name of Minoura Kinnosuke finds his fiancée murdered inside a locked room. As he struggles to find the culprit, a doctor by the name of Moroto Michio, who has long harboured unrequited feelings towards Minoura, offers to help solve the case.

When Futaro was five years old, his father left his home. Futaro's mother got sick in poverty. Also, Futaro has a ugly face, like Quasimodo. He's been discriminated against and treated like trash by almost everyone in his neighborhood. Finally, his mother dies because they can't afford medical treatment. Burying his mother's body, Futaro makes up his mind to do anything for money...

At a nearby high school, Kazuma Kadomae assumes the position of homeroom teacher and takes the time to familiarize himself with all his students. Amongst the pupils is Kanade Noeda, the principal's daughter, who appears to be more introverted than her peers. Despite his good intentions, Kadomae's attentiveness unintentionally leads Noeda to develop an unrequited love for him, morphing into a delusional obsession. Kadomae grows increasingly alarmed by Noeda's unconventional advances towards him, and his efforts to dissuade her only amplify her infatuation. The situation soon escalates when a student involved with Kadomae is injured, and Noeda's unwanted pursuit turns into her stalking Kadomae and his family. It soon dawns on Kadomae that Noeda will stop at nothing to claim her place beside him.

A plethora of authors and artists have written a diverse collection of short stories featuring the characters from the eponymous game. These tales run the gamut from sincerely touching, filled with laughter and humor, to unabashedly sinister or twisted.

Rewritten: The original webcomic showed a series of images, while the official translations presented the story in English. The plot centered around a woman who reluctantly agreed to a lucrative business deal out of desperation. She believed it would be a one-time transaction, but fate had other plans. Five years later, she unexpectedly encountered her business partner, who uttered hateful words while passionately engaging in intimate activity. The man discovered a secret she had been keeping, and used it to control her, refusing to let her leave his bed. The story cautioned against assuming that physical beauty garners universal adoration.

Overwhelmed by a combination of envy and disappointment, he retreated to the rooftop of the school to pour out his heart in tears. AF begins his second year of high school, depressed over the mundane nature of his life and his inability to find himself. The strange thing is, whenever he is depressed, AF always starts seeing three strange little things flying around him. No one else sees these oddities, and aside from their occasional presence, his life remains incredibly ordinary…That is until he meets Sane, a girl who suddenly asks him to teach her how to play guitar, and a strange middle aged man that speaks to AF about the difference between reality and dreams. From that day on, AF starts experiencing strangely real dreams, but they are still just dreams…right?

As preparations for the annual Cotton Drifting Festival gather momentum, a sense of unease gnaws at them. It becomes increasingly apparent that someone within their ranks is manipulating events to ensure a disaster unfolds.

In the year 1977 in Yonaki Village, Kazunari Honda and Natsuko Honda—his cousin and girlfriend—live a peaceful life despite most of the other villagers not approving of their relationship. But soon, they will have more to worry about than the opinions of the townsfolk, as a mysterious black envelope appears and informs the villagers that they will be participating in the "King's Game." The rules state that the commands must be followed by the end of the day, and that no one is allowed to quit. With most viewing the appearance of the envelope as a joke, they soon realize that those who don't obey the orders will die. As more villagers meet their demise, Kazunari and his friends realize they must play the terrible King's Game, all the while suspecting that someone in the village may be the King.
