From Lucia Rose: Shirokuma Cafe revolves around the everyday lives of a group of animals mingling with humans at a cafe run by a polar bear named Shirokuma-kun. His animal friends include Panda-kun, a lazy but well-meaning panda bear; Penguin-san, a sharp-tongued penguin; and Grizzly-san, a grizzly bear with a wild personality.
After two eccentrically dressed individuals ambush her, high school student Yukari Hayasaka promptly passes out due to shock. She soon awakens to find herself surrounded by even more strangely dressed people in the basement studio of Paradise Kiss—a fashion design club composed of four students from Yazawa School for the Arts. Although it seems like Yukari has been kidnapped, the older students explain that they only approached her to see if she would model their collection for an upcoming fashion show. Being a senior with a busy schedule, Yukari furiously rejects the group's offer. But when she drops her student passbook in her haste to leave, the ringleader of the group, George Koizumi, picks it up and uses it as a means to coerce Yukari into considering their request. The story is taken from the famous Nordic saga, but is based on the adaption of Richard Wagner: Der Ring des Nibelungen, a cycle of four epic music dramas. Central element of the story is of course the stunning Ring of the Nibelung, guarded in the depths of the sea by the nymphs of the water. According to the legend, the owner of the ring will get an enormous power that can challenge even the gods. The hero of the manga is Siegfried, who grew up in the woods with the blacksmith Mime (a dwarf), and is accustomed to harsh life and fighting. He embarks on his destined journey when Mime is killed by a soldier and he is out to get revenge. On his journey he will meet Woden, the god of thunder, and his daughter Brunilde, with whom he falls in love.
