Set in a world decimated by the infamous Shocker - an anarchic global terror group founded by ex-Nazis - the series' plot follows their penchant for kidnapping and genetically altering people into cyborg mutants, with the aim of world domination. However, Takeshi Hongo, a captive of Shocker, manages to resist total brainwashing and escapes. With his sanity and ethical code intact, Hongo battles Shocker's minions as Kamen Rider, a superhero inspired by grasshoppers.
In 1711, a group of alchemists seeking eternal life gathered on a boat to summon the "demon" that held the secret. The demon agreed to give them what they wanted—an elixir of life, the method to create more, and the secret to ending their new-found existence. The following night, alchemists began disappearing, "eaten" by one of their own. Realizing the threat being close together posed, they decided to scatter across the world. Centuries later, in Prohibition-era America, the immortals have come together once again, and the "stupid commotion" (baccano) starts.
A special gathering has been arranged for a chosen few former high school students to honor their deceased classmate Kiriko, after receiving a letter signed "From K". Ryosuke, a young man with cropped black hair and a past connection to Kiriko, struggles to unravel the mystery surrounding her enigmatic death, unaware of the true identity of "K". While his former classmates suffer horrific fates and his own recollections become clearer, Ryosuke realizes he's running out of time to make things right.
The focus of Haunted Junction is Saitou High School, where both students and spirits coexist. The Student Council, made up of three members: Haruto Houjou, a diligent student brought up by a Christian pastor; Kazumi Ryuudou, a young man with an obsession for girls brought up by a Buddhist monk, and Mutsuki Asahina, daughter of a Shinto priest with a liking for young boys, ensures the smooth running of the school for everyone. Although some spirits dwelling the school premises are amiable, others are not. To eliminate malevolent spirits and perilous demons, the Council enlists seven distinctive spirits within the school that Haruto holds seven unique badges for, with each spirit based on common myths and ghost stories in Japanese schools.
