Shoji Tokairin, a postgraduate student researching AI, gets lured in by a huge paycheck and takes on a part-time job from a mysterious organization called Miyama Zoo to develop an app. Impressed by his work, the director of the organization gives him the codename Owl and recruits him into Miyama Zoo. But, things take a dark turn when an accident happens at one of the works he was assigned. As he digs deep about the organization out of paranoia, he discovers that Miyama Zoo is actually a group of criminals, each using animal-based codenames. By the time he realizes he has been unknowingly aiding criminal activities, he's already knee-deep in the operation. Miyazaki wrote a manga for a children's newspaper that is more like a graphic novel with minimal dialogue bubbles and most text is outside of the frames. Despite this, the story is surprisingly dark and touches on themes of war, betrayal, and the ugliness of human nature. The influence of Tezuka Osamu can be seen in the art style, but Miyazaki's later works such as "Nausicaä" can also be detected. In fact, this manga can be considered a prototype of "Nausicaä."
