The year is 2003, and Japan boasts a technological paradise where robots are ubiquitous. Tobio is one such creation, constructed by the brilliant Dr. Tenma in an effort to replace his deceased son. However, Tobio soon proves to be an inferior clone of the child he was modeled after, resulting in his dismissal by Dr. Tenma. Fortunately, Tobio is rescued from the scrap heap by the benevolent Professor Ochanomizu, an advocate for the rights of robots.
